The concept and definition of design for economics (DFE) of commercial transport aircraft is introduced first and the description of topics in the field of design for economics is proposed. A framework implementing the approach along with the design indicators which could be used in various design reviews. Methods and models for estimating the various cost items are also provided. In the end, a number of future research directions are proposed.
